Hello experts!!!
IP500V2 8.1.56
Embedded VM
A customer with 3 analog lines and using line appearances, would like to put callers on hold if no one answers the Main Hunt group after 5 rings. They would like the phones to stop ringing after 5 rings if no one answers and have the caller hear hold music. Is this even possible, please help.

I have never had such a strange request.
If calls are put on hold automaticly who will know that?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The line appearance should show their is a call is on the line and each phone has all the user buttons, so if there is a call and no one is on the phone, their has to be a call holding). I know, strange but its what he had in his old system (don't know which one).
I even though about creating an overflow with a phantom user that is forward to park short code, but could not get that to work either.

Ditch the line appearence keys, put them in a group that rings for 25secs (5 rings) then overflows to a group with no members in, give them a "Group" key for that group. Call will ring for 5 rings then after that will just flash on the key on their phones which they press to answer :)

amriddle01 - this is almost perfect!!!
When the caller hits the overflow group with no users, the caller will still hear ringing and not hold music, correct? Think I can add a phantom user that is forward to MOH short code. The light would no longer flash but I can give the customer these 2 options. I will test tonight but would like your before I do.

If you turn announcements on and drop the timer to 0 secs then select play music after prompt thy will get hold music as soon as they enter the group and the key will continue to flash, best of both worlds. Or leave announcements off and they will just hear ringing :)

Don't forget to turn VM off in the second group (it's on by default). And FYI multiple calls will queue and as they press the button they will be picked up in the order they entered i.e longest waiting first :)

PROBLEM!!! Customer does not want to dial a 9 to get out and would rather press his line appearances.

You could try keeping it as is and adding back the line appearance keys but set to not ring, may work. I don't use line appearance keys as they do nothing but keep customers in the old way of doing things and break useful features, in fact I have never put line appearance on a customers system :)

BTW what's the difference between pressing a line key or the 9 key? It's still a single key press. Do they have an extreme aversion to the 9 key? Hope they never have an emergency call to make :)

Depending on your location/dial plan the system can dial external calls without any additional key presses, you just dial the number straight off :)

That is exactly what I explained to the customer. I did not install otherwise I would have not used line appearances. I would have told him he has a big boy system now.

why not simply leave the system as default where no line access code is required to dial out
(or are you in the USA where the telecom network is still prehistoric ;-)
