Hi,

Looking at the initial error messages it looks as if the 3640 has entered rommon as it has been unable to load an IOS image (cannot read flash info).

After failing to read the onboard flash memory, it looks as if it's checked the 2 PCMCIA slots on the 3640 to see if these are populated with any PCMCIA flash that could have a useable IOS on them. As there are no flash cards present, it's final option is to enter ROMMON to provide a limited set of recovery commands.

It may be more fruitful to try and determine what's going on with the onboard flash memory, rather than worrying about ROMMON. You could start by opening up the 3640 and checking to see if the flash is physically present. If it is, it may be worth reseating the flash memory, in case it has come loose in transit.

As you've recently purchased this off e-bay it may also be worth contacting the vendor to discuss the issue ASAP as there may be a time limit for returns.

The below link is for upgrading the memory on 3600's and details the internal layout of the router and how to open the chassis.

Good luck!

Wow thanks alot jus, I will most certainly check inside the chasis and then contact the vendor, its funny my intial purchase from this vendor was the 3620 and he stated in an email that he would upgrade to the 3640 because the 3620's ios was corrupted, lol and now it seems this 3640 he sent is bad as well.

Hey jus, i found the problem and you were 100% correct. I opened the chasis and looked at the flash, they had it seated in bank 1 instead of bank 0 as the cisco website suggested and you pointed out. Thanks alot you really helped and now i dont' have to make that nasty call/email to the vendor. Peace.

I would still make the call for all the hardache they caused!!!!
