The software vendor publishes a report with the data saved within the Crystal Report method. I need to reformat the data and add some calculations and cannot change the original propitiatory report.

I do not want to modify the report every time we run it.

Is there a way in Crystal to directly pull the data from another saved report? I am trying to avoid exporting the data from the original report; and then importing to the new one.

So is there a SELECT FROM OriginalReport.rpt statement?

Can you just paste in another report template over the existing one?

thanks.

Not that I am aware of. There may some third party method, but I have not heard of it.

This will be interesting - I suspect you could get much of the way there with a template, depending on the complexity of your additional calculations. Can you elaborate a bit on what changes you do, and the general framework of the report?

Brian, I need to change the group settings, filter settings and sort settings, as well as add in a couple of simple totals. thanks

Hi,
Maybe try exporting the data in a format that CR can use as a datasource ( Like CSV or Text )..Then use it to rebuild a report designed like you need.

Thanks for the ideas.

On a whim, I tried something.

I went in the vendor's software, ran the report in preview, left it open.
Then I switched to Crystal, ran my report using their stored procedure that was now unlocked. It works and it is a simple procedure I can teach the end user.

Hope I can help you all out some day.
