Publisher 2003 not printing page backgrounds

I've spent months creating a family history album using Publisher 2003. I've started printing using the Canon Pixma Pro9000 printer, and am having a strange issue.
I selected four pages to print, and only two of the pages printed with the background.
I made sure under the printer options to print page backgrounds, then made sure the entire document within Publisher has the page background image set throughout.
What's going on??? This forum is my last chance to save months of work from going to waste, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help.

Did you insert the background pictures differently than the way you did on the ones that print?

All the background images were inserted in the same manner; I go to format; page backgrounds, select the background I want, I then select; apply to all pages.

Try creating a master page and insert the picture in that page.

Thanks, I will try that, but it still doesn't explain why some pages print properly and other do not. I think it's just some kind of strange glitch with Publisher. I suspect that if I tried reinstalling Publisher it would also do the job.
Thanks for the good advice though; I hadn't thought of the master page option.
