I have tried using the help screen which instructs me to de-select the Master Page option in Headers and Footers. I made sure my cursor was on the first page on which I wanted the new header, unchecked the Master Page option, changed the header text, saved the document, and found out that ALL headers in the entire document had changed to the new header wording. Can anyone give me some guidance with this? Thanks much.

Are you sure you're not talking about Powerpoint? Unless Pub 2002 has changed drastically from 2000 (I don't have easy access to it right now and can't recall what you describe), there is no Master Page, as such. That is a Powerpoint term. In Publisher there is the Background...but headers and footers are not the same as with PPT and Word. They are not there by default, they are created in the Background, and edited in the Background - a bit like the Master Slide in PPT. They are fairly inflexible...with a booklet publication, there can be 2 different sets of backgrounds...odd and even. And, the background can be ignored on a page (thus, not appearing). I'm interested to know how you went with your problem

...Oh, I've just had a look at Pub 2003 and it does have a master page...my mistake. More like PPT...

Hi Stroppy. Yes, I was really working in Publisher 2002. I got around the header issue "the long way" by adding text boxes to the top of every page. Definitely NOT an efficient way to go, and definitely a pain when I revise the document at all, but for now it works.

Thanks.

I know this sounds unbelievable, but I think the help instructions are misleading at least, and most likely wrong. I've had a good look and pub 2002 suggests that one can simply add a header and footer to one page only. Not only does it not work, but the instructions for doing so are wrong.

Even after clearing the "View Master" chck box, when following the instructions and then choosing "View Headers & Footers", one is then viewing the master!
