I have purchased a Thermaltake Purepower 500W power supply, which states that it is a ver 2.0. Many other PSU models are stated as ver 2.2. Have I purchased something that is, or will quickly be, out of date? I questioned the sales guy at Frys, but they assured me I have a good up-to-date supply. I looked up the spec for ver 2.2 at , but cannot readily see what improved in 2.01, 2.1 and 2.2 that I would need to build an up-to-date PC. To anyone out there that is familiar with the spec - have I purchased a PSU that will serve me for a few years?

This Wikipedia page gives good info:

Specifically, it says:

* ATX12V 2.0 - 24 pin main connector, 4 pin secondary connector (Pentium 4, Core 2 Duo, and Athlon 64 with PCI Express)
* ATX12V 2.2 - One 20/24-pin connector, one ATX12V 4 pin connector. Many power supply manufacturers include a 4 plus 4 pin, or 8 to 4 pin secondary connector instead, which can also be used as the secondary EPS12V connector.

It sounds like the main difference is that in the 2.0 spec the main 24-pin connector is split into a 20-pin one and a 4-pin one that click together like Lego so it'll fit either 20-pin or 24-pin sockets. That's how my PSU works anyway.
