Greetings,
One of my colleagues was considering connecting our ADSL lines to one of our spare patch panels, for easier management. While he was originally going to connect the line from the box on the wall, he believes it should be ok to take the line and terminate it directly, without the box in-between. While I suppose that's probably fine, I know that most PSTN boxes have a resistor and capacitor on the PCB. I have to assume they are there for a reason, so my questions are:
A) Does anyone know what they are there for (raw curiosity).
B) Is it ever an acceptable idea to directly terminate the PSTN line on a patch panel?
Thank you.
