I am somewhat new to Exchange Server 2003, I have set up a couple of them, created accounts, was able to get OWA etc, got it working no problem.

I have a customer that has 20 users on Exchange Server 2003, and they use Outlook 2003. They download their email via POP3 to a local PST file on their PC.

I suggested they use IMAP for the desktops and the Exchange protocol (cached mode) for the laptops. Now this would require an OST file if I am not mistaken. How do I convert all 20 PST files to an OST file?

I checked the resource kit and the web, couldn't find anything on it, not even on here which is odd.

Am I on the right track here?

Hi,

there is a lot of tools to convert ost files into pst, but i dont know any to convert it the other way round. But i think you do not need to convert them to ost. I use a laptop myself having an ost file (created due Outlook by default) plus a pst file added trough Data File Management. I am using this pst file now for many years, everytime i change my system i copy all content from "Outlook Today" to the Pst and simply copy the pst to a new PC. If you still only want to use Ost, you could copy the pst to the laptop, add it to outlook, copy the data to "Outlook Today=Ost" in offline mode and delete the pst file. I wish i would know an easier method, if you find one please post it here.

Regards
Asok

import the PST into the persons mailbox, then configure Outlook to connect to that mailbox.

Why not use MAPI (Exchange protocol) for desktops and laptops - IMAP is a protocol intended for remote users, in the same way that POP3 is.
