Can anyone help?

I am trying to backup some Outlook folders, for disaster recovery.

I have copied Inbox.pst to a cd. Then put the cd into another pc to try to 'read' the Inbox.pst. (via import etc)
After getting another common error Now resolved (because the file was read only)

I am getting an error saying
"The file c: /save path/backup.pst is not a personal folders file"
Well I beg to differ!

Anyone got any ideas?

Machine 1 had the data to be backed up, exported to a .pst file(from outlook 97-2000)

Machine 2 had same op sys (win2k) but office/outlook 2003. Should be able to read data as going from older pc to newer pc.

Thanks in advance. Rob.

Are you copying the .pst file to the local hard drive before you try to import?

You cannot restore a .pst file if it is in a readonly state; i.e. when stored on a CD-R. You'll need to copy it to your hard drive first, change the file properties (unless your using XP then it does it for your) and then restore from it.

Thanks to both replies, I did copy the .pst from one PC to another, (via cd) but when I installed the file onto the new (recovery pc) I did reset the file attributes from READ only.

What I wanted to do was to export to a backup file on PC "A", copy to a cd, re-install on pc "B" then open the file on pc "B" So I'm still stuck, I've nearly got it but not quite.
