Hi
Apologies if I'm in the wrong forum!

Basically I have 2 windows 2008 servers. Server1 has Vshell installed to enable FTP. I can sftp from the second server to the Vshell server no probs issuing a userid/password. I'm using psftp (putty tool) to sftp files across. (psftp is on server2)

I want to be able to sftp without issuing a password. Therefore I ran "PUTTYKey generator" to generate public and private keys. This is the point at which I'm stuck. I've copied the public key to the "authorized_keys" file on the Vshell server, but is there anything else I need to do? I've tried sftp again using a userid I setup on the Vshell server but it still prompts me for a password.

many thanks

Just in case someone runs a search and finds this post I'll supply the solution here as I've no idea what Forum it should be in

Basically I was on the right track, the public key is 'pasted' into the authorized_keys file which is housed on the Vshell server (appended to other public keys that may exist there already. Then on the source server, save a private key (also using the PUTTYKen generator tool) and issue a connection to the Vshell server using the following command:

psftp userid@servername -i PrivateKeyFileName
