Hello folks, we are currently in the process of virtualizing our pSeries frames and one of the pieces we are working through is the use VLAN tagging to support network virtualization.
My question is has anyone worked with VLAN tagging (for the purpose of pSeries virtualization)primarily using Cisco switching. I would like to know if there is a preferred network switch model or if anyone has any good links that they can share
I have gone the google route but cannot find anything useful that discusses this in any detail. Thank you.

Hi,

We did VLAN tagging on VIO's in both Power5/6 P-Server 570's & MMA , Using CISCO routers, have not encounter any issue's concering routers.

Thanks guys, can you provide me with the types of Cisco devices used for your setups. We attempted to use a Cisco 3560 switch although it did not seem to work (issue with community VLANs it seems). Other people have recommended Cisco 4506s but before we commit to purchasing one (they are expensive) we wanted to know what other folks were using. Thank you again for you inputs.

Are you virtualizing ethernet with SEA or IVE?

When virtualizing with SEA, Dual VIOs and etherchannel (NIB) on the client LPAR, you cannot do VLAN tagging.

If you want to have Dual VIOs with VLAN tagging you must do SEA failover.
