Hi,
I have a folder for my Post script fonts and one for windows that sits in my control panel. The PS fonts folder sits on my hard drive separately. The Fonts Folder in Control panel does not list the ps fonts. I am not sure if I set it up that way or not. But I want to be able to access those ps fonts in all applications such as in Word and photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. DO I need to move all those fonts to the fonts folder in control panel?

I do have the free Adobe Type manager that appears to allow me to move the ps fonts, but when I do so,the font icon appears as a shortcut icon in my windows font folder.

What is the best way to have access to these ps fonts in all my software? I am not all that comfortable with moving these fonts because I see a pfm folder and a TT_conv folder in the ps fonts folder.I know they are important and I don't want to create a huge headache. Any advice?
Thanks

Isabela

You can install these fonts to the Fonts folder without moving them. Open the Fonts folder "c:\windows\fonts". Click on file then Install Fonts. Browse for the location of your fonts and click on the select all button. Click on OK. This will install your fonts but also leave a copy in the existing folder.
I have just checked this on my XP Pro system here and it worked fine.

Any feed back is appreciated.

Thanks Greg. I appreciate the response.

One more question, if I may, what if I don't want to use up a lot of resources? Fonts can be a huge system hog and I already have a little less than 500 fonts in total.( I do plan on deleting some recently installed ones.) I see I can uncheck the 'COpy Fonts to Fonts Folder'. Do you see any problems with moving them instead of copying them?

Thanks
Isabela

Isabela,
If you are worried about the number of fonts that you have loaded, you can just add or remove the fonts as needed with ATM. The font icons with shortcuts is normal from ATM. Did you seem to have a problem with these fonts?

As far as the TT_conv folder, this is the explanation from the read me file...

2.2.1 If you installed PostScript fonts before installing ATM

If you installed PostScript Type 1 fonts on your computer before installing ATM, Windows NT gave you the option of converting the fonts to TrueType, installing the fonts for use with a PostScript printer, or both. When you install ATM, the installer scans the registry for PostScript fonts that were converted to TrueType.

If it finds the original PostScript fonts installed on your system as well as the converted TrueType versions, the installer asks whether you want to use the PostScript versions instead of the converted TrueType equivalents. If you click Yes, the ATM installer makes the PostScript fonts available for use and moves the converted TrueType fonts to the TT_conv folder in the folder containing your PostScript fonts.

On the other hand, if you allowed Windows NT to convert PostScript fonts to TrueType but did not also install the PostScript fonts themselves, the installer does not prompt you and the TrueType fonts remain available for use. If you want to use the PostScript fonts, you must install them manually after installing ATM. For information on adding fonts, see the user guide.

Hope this helps,
Dave

Fantastic!

Thank you for the explanation. I am studying typography and never needed to know anything about fonts and installations prior to this.

Thanks for you help
