I cannot make the Color Replacement Tool replace a color with black. I've made black the foreground color and then, with the tool, selected a color to be replaced. This color gets changed to gray intstead of black.

Is there a way to actually make this tool change a selected color to be exactly the same as the foreground color?

Thanks.

I can't make the Color Replacement Tool replace a black background (in a color photograph) with white or grey. Colors such as yellow, red, and blue seem to replace the black but not 100% - grey and white don't appear to replace any of the black.

I have tried the various options.

bb1300. Try Image>Adjustments>Selective Colour. In the 'Colours' box choose Blacks. Then make adjustments with the channels sliders.

Thanks.
However, what I have is a lovely brunette against a black background. Your suggestion works for the background but it gives her (premature) grey hair also. I'm trying to separate her from the black background, or vice versa, or change the background color.

There's no 'one click' answer to this one - you will have to use a mask and mscallisto's advice is spot on. Looks like an excellent tutorial site.

Thanks guys - this advanced masking tutorial certainly solves my problem. I will never put people in new places the old way again.
