Hi

I know that there is a maximum length for PS/2 cables before they need a booster but can't find out what it is. Can any of you guys help me please.

Also is there a limit on the length of a USB cable specifically for Mice and Keyboards?

Many thanks in advance.

Matt

Are these to a powered hub, or unpowered?

If I were you I would investigate wireless mice and keyboards.

Hi bcastner

I would much prefer to use wireless but unfortunately they are to be used on an exhibition stand and therefore I doubt they would be left there for more than 10 minutes.

The cables need to run just over 8 meters from the booth to a pod.
Is this even possible with PS/2?!?

Thanks

Matt

I never tried it more than roughly 5 meters, the USB roughly the same distance. Both worked. I don't think I have ever seen longer usb cables come to think of it.

If this is a requirement you are likely to face again, I recommend you look at a variation on KVM devices, usually called Console Extenders. Many let use use Cat 5 drop cables up to 160 meters away, and will pass video, ps/2 and usb at the same time.

Try a google search for 'console extender' and I think you will find a product that suits.
