Hi There,

in a networked environment e.g 100pcs i have recently experienced users logging in and launching internet explorer to find it not working.

The cause of this is that in Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings>
The use a proxy server for your LAN is ticked.(HOWEVER WE DO NOT USE A PROXY SERVER) This setting is applying itself from somewhere and i need to permanantly remove it.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to where this setting is being applied??

Thanks!

Check your AD Group Policy and make sure it's not set there.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

We have checked this and there is nothing in the AD group policy for this setting..the PC's which have this issue are ones which were inherited from a takeover and they used to have a proxy server however they are now running on group policy enforced by us and we arent using any proxy server but this setting still keeps applying itself.
???

Sounds like it could be a setting in their profile. Are you using roaming or locked profiles?

Is it PC specific, or does it follow the user to other pc's?

What IP's are being set as a proxy? Some spyware sets a proxy server and it can be a bit of a pain to get rid of i would suggest running several spyware scans and a trojan scan along with an online virus scan.

has a spyware scan and a virus scan

has a trial version you can use that will remove trojans
