Hi All,

Can anyone recommend some good Companies who sell Proxy Servers Software or Hardware? I'm researching and trying to find a good product for my environment (LAN - 600 Users). I would appreciate if some people could share with me products they purchased and have implemented in your environment.

Thanks in advance,
Zoey

Hi,

Blue Coat (Proxy SG) are generally considered at present the leader in proxy applances. They also boost some impressive features such as anti-spyware code review, and as they provide a hardware solution which operates at wire speed there is not a real hit for your users. A software alternative I have seen implemented is finjan, we use this is a government managed contract, to give you an idea of user number, we have an entire class a public address space allocated. So it holds up pretty well as a software product but platform is key.

Chris,

Thanks for the tips on these products. I will check them out.

Thanks,
Zoey

Zoey,

Not sure if it's suitable for you, as I am only just looking at it myself, but do an open source package, which so far has looked really impressive. We bought a software proxy a couple of years ago which cost several thousand pounds (GBP), and this 'free' system is, on initial inspection, far superior. It was relatively painless to install, and so far has been very responsive for the group of users I have testing it. (Considering I'm running it on a virtual pc on my desktop, that can't be too bad!)

Rik,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out.

Bluecoat is by far the best out there. They are pricey, but are worth every penny. Highly secure, very scalable, great performance, Anti-X, support for IM and Streaming Media, etc. There is nothing that you cannot control with the Bluecoat when it comes to Internet Browsing Connectivity. There is a little ramp up time if you are going to implement advanced features. You may want to learn some javascript too. With the bluecoat you can inject javascript code for additional controls.
