First off, I am a vendor, and I went to school for this but it was over a year ago and I am very rusty. PBX guy is just one of my job titles.

I am trying to turn up a non-pri T1 on a BCM 450. I have a test t1 set up by my coworker, who is the CO guy. He set up a T1 SF AMI, and provisioned 5 trunks with a ficticious number so I can try to get this tested. at least that is what he said, but he is a cranky old dude and if something is wrong on his end I will have to prove it to him. I have my BCM set for DTM-T1 in telephony resources, I provisioned the first trunk ONLY because I want to KISS. under t1 parameters, I set it for PSTN because our switch is only a DMS-10 and I dont think it can even do ISDN. CLock is primary external and I dont even know what CO FAIL should be set to. Then I set under ALL LINES to E&M wink start. I set it to appear and ring on set 221. I try to call out on that line and it beeps at me and says not in service. I try to call in with my cell phone to the number and it is busy. I have an alarm on the set of LEDs with the arrow pointing into the circle. the light is on the triangle with two semi circles, as opposed to the triangle with one semi circle. I can put a loopback plug in the DTM and the lights clear up - obviously. I have no alarms on my T1.

please help.

Thanks

ISDN/PSTN parameter is default at ISDN and should be fine set that way.

If you want to get a little deeper, you can set the E&M trunks to Auto Answer, and I believe a setting for DISA=N (defaults to Y). Then program target line 360 with Public Rcvd Digits: xxxx (where XXXX are digits the CO Guy is sending along those trunks). Program Target Line 360 to Appr&Ring on your set. Have your CO Guy send you the last 4 digits of the phone number you're testing along those trunks. Voila, you've setup DID. The ability to utilize more telephone numbers across a lesser amount of trunks. Average I would say is 4 numbers for every trunk.

Good stuff, thanks. It's up and working. Now I just have to take it down to the customer and install it. Someone at my company is a bad ass salesman, because this 450 is going in and only using 28 digital stations.

They are only purchasing 10 trunks on the t1, what is the best way to assign these trunks outgoing? is there a way to use the whole group outgoing where it will grab the trunks without interfering with incoming trunks?

I always say to let the LEC do their job. But if you want to get technical....

Deprovision the last 13 channels of the PRI. Set the CbC limits to 10 max inbound and 10 max outbound. This would guarantee that only 10 calls can be made..
