Hi
I've been wondering whether there is any way to replicate the effect you get when using the ALT attribute on an image to provide what i call a 'tool tip' (e.g. "Sponsor a Tek-Tips forum!" when hovering over the advert banner of this page) over a text hyperlink link?

I've ploughed through many sites regarding this and am still none the wiser! Any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated

the title and alt tags are used by search engines also they are accessibility features. when you use a dhtml script, you loose these advantages Ranjan

Hi mate,

the title and alt tags are used by search engines

Can you name 2?? I don't know of any that definatly look at the alt tags, they are abused too much so a lot of the engines ignore them..

Also, using overlib, the text is on the page so there is just as much (If not more) chance of the words being searched by the engine.

The accessibility is a valid reason but how many sites out there are totally accessable by disabled browsers??

Hope this helps Wullie

whats the audience of the site? i merely said you lose advantages. i didn't say if its good or bad for you to use or not use Ranjan
