Can anyone tell me how I should go about protecting a range of cell? I tried to: protect the sheet and unchecked the locked cells but did not work.It protected other cells that I did not want protected.

Hi bayuga,

If you want to use Excel's inbuilt cell protection, you need to 'unlock' any cells you don't want locked - before protecting the worksheet.

Hello,
i think that is the problem, for the life of me I can not figure out how I can unlock the cells. I am not even sure why some of the cells are locked.

All cells are locked by default. This has no effect unless Worksheet Protection is turned on.

So, select the cells that you want the user to be able to change, and Format > Cells. Go to the Protection tab and uncheck Locked.

Now when you enable Protection, it will have no effect on the cells you unlocked.

Liliabeth,
Thanks for that response. I will definitely try that. I will keep you posted
