One of my 2008r2 DC's failed, and I never had a chance to dcpromo it out of AD. A quick search turns up instructions that range from just going into AD and deleting the dead computer object to the old ntdsutil command line method. All my DCs are 2008r2 except for a new one added a month ago which is 2012r2, so the forest/domain level is 2008. The dead DC did not have any roles assigned to it.

Can I simply go into AD users and computers, site and services, and dns etc. and just delete the objects like some instructions indicate? or does it really require all the ntdsutil command line stuff?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
