What is the proper shutdown and powerup procedure for a Nortel OPT 81?

courtcy dwn all entities that allow it. backup all proceedures allowing backup / data dump. Do not use any pwr supply buttons or card pwr buttons. shut down using breakers

not the way i do it.. post backup i power down the cpu shelfs.. i bring those up last.. when you pwr down the ipe's the cpu's start running errors, next ipe more errors.. i've seen them do an ini before all ipe's and cores are down.. and do not ever power down the cpu during the middle of an ini..

so i turn off the cpu.. the rest of the switch does not care.. the cpus go to sleep.. when they boot they see all the ipe's cores alive and waiting.. then they can bring them up in seq.. if the cpu comes up 1st, you may have to bring up the conf/tds then the controllers.. then the pris etc..

on an ac switch i use the power on the front of the ps.. on a dc i use the rear breakers

The power up in a big switch depends on how big it is and what CPs it has and the software version. With old Motorola processors and old software release I first powered up all the netwotk cores first but with no net, misp, pri/dti card enabled. Once the system had loaded completely and the midn routines passed I started to slowly enable all the pri cards, and the net cards. finally I powered up all the IPEs. This is a slower procedure but it's proven to be a safer way, plus you have more control.

i've never used that, even with the older cpus.. i perfer the nortel to see the nets and pri's.. the switch i maintain is almost 8000 stations with 30 + pri's.. i don't want to set there for an hour to get it back up.. with all cabs on then the core, it comes up in 6+ minutes.. then post midn i start looking for anything that did not come up clean.. we have cp and symposium, neither have had a problem with the core comming up last..

as usual there is never one way to do anything in the gray boxes
