I have been observing this for the past couple of weeks. When ever I open my browser, by default the address pointing to a prone site. I have tried clearing the cookies and temporary internet files from my computer. I have even made my default page as “blank”. It will remain normal for some time. After about 6-7hrs, the default address will be replaced with the prone site address. I did not know where it resides in my laptop. More over the antivirus which I have is a latest one. Have any of you faced same kind of problem? Is there any way to fine how these get initiated? Please reply.

try using internet cleanup from this allows you to selectively delete cookies, history, activex, plugins, spyware. It also completely erases all data that is hidden and not normally cleaned when using ie's built in file/cookie delete options.

I had the same kind of problem you did and this fixed it (try deleting all temp content from your windows temp folder as well).

If your using ie 6 turn up the privacy setting under tools--->options--->privacy. Also under the tools tab, change your security settings to a higher level to stop activex being installed automatically. Alternately use a firewall program like zonealarm pro ( this blocks all data/activex/plugins from automatically being installed without your permission.
If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!

Thanks for the info. I will try downloading the software from ontrack.com

I have cleared all cache, temp files from my PC still it comes some how.

I saw an article in Microsoft's Knowledge Base about this yesterday ... I'll try and locate it again today. (I can remember seeing the title and chuckling about it ... sorry).

I'll get back to you when I find it.

Sorry, can't find the article. I was putting in so many different search terms in MS yesterday, and can't remember which instance/string brought up the article. However, did find Q320159, which could be a resolution. Go to and locate this KnowledgeBase article.

Hope this helps!

Did you try and see if it installed itself in Add Remove Programs? See if it is there and uninstall if it is. There are a few sites that users here visit that will change the homepage and several work as noted above. Good luck.
