prompts question

I have developed a report in report studio which uses

4 promots . After selecting 4 values for prompts and hit run button in this case we are having performance issues. Is there a way to apply first prompt and run query(first result set will filter out half of the records) and apply second prompt on above result set and get the result set , apply third prompt on result set .... and so on ...

where to store results in cognos ...(cache) ??

please advice me

Did you tried using cascading prompts?
Looking at the description you provided it seems cascading prompts will do the work.
