Hello,
We have lot of users that have saved reports. They usually run reports for a particular business segment or geography. They answer the prompts and save the reports. This week, all the saved prompt answers were lost. When the users open up the report they no longer see the saved prompt answers. It happened for all the users in our current production project. What would cause the prompt answers to be cleared/lost specially on the saved reports. Also, where are the prompt answers saved - are they saved in some files on the IServer box or on the metadata??.

thanks,
Shramana

this sounds very bad. I'm hoping that you have contacted their tech support.
and that you have a backup of the metadata...

Hi Shramana,

There is a technote on the support website that might help answer your first question. TN4000-7X0-0765. To sum it up though, it looks like if you change the definition of a prompt that is on a users report(s), and that user has previously saved some answers to the prompt when they ran the reports, the change to the prompt could cause a loss of those saved answers.

At first I thought that prompt answers were stored in a cache file (.prmpt) in an Inbox directory on the I-Server, but I'm not really sure about that. nlim could be right, it's probably in the metadata somewhere, and hopefully you've got a copy of that which you could restore.

Nate

Nlim and Nate, thanks for responding. We lost all the prompt answers because the prompts were changed. We had to add some descriptions to the prompts. It seems that even simply opening and saving a prompt without changing anything would clear all the saved prompt answers on the saved reports. This is how it behaves in 7.1.6.

thanks,
Shramana
