All of my servers are either 2000 or 2003, except my PDC, it is still a NT 4.0 server. I have built a new server to act as my new DC, it is a Windows 2003 Standard server, running WINS, DNS, and DHCP. When I run DCPROMO on the 2003 server, it prompts me if I am joining an existing domain or a new domain. I choose existing domain, and it comes back and tells me that no AD domain controller is found, which is correct since my existing DC is 4.0

Can only help??

thank you

You will need to upgrade your PDC to windows 2003 or 2000 and install active directory , you cant join a NT 4 domain. Make sure you put in a BDC before you do that, so incase there is a problem you and bring the BDC and promote it to a PDC so that you can keep your existing domain functional.

If I upgrade my existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC to Windows 2003 and install AD, will I loose all my user accounts? Somone told me that and I needed to verify....

thank you!
