We have a Windows 2000 domain with 2 trees in the forest. I would like to install a Windows 2003 server as a domain controller. I realize that I must run the forestprep and the domainprep before promoting the server. Has anyone done this yet?

Yes you must run it

They are swithes of adprep command which is located at the i386 folder of the net server cd

If you put your CD in to install it will give you instructions on running forestprep the domainprep.
Do an upgrade or new install and then from the command prompt run "dcpromo". This will bring up the Wizard. Check the box to add this server to an existing domain. Follow the promps.

You should upgrade to 2003 and adprep /forestprep and /domainprep the DC that has the schema master role.
Leave A.D. in mixed mode and the Win 2k DCs will work fine with the 2003 DC.

Be sure to read MS KB article 325379. It contains a ton of good information.
