I Was using Win ME with HP OfficeJet 710( all ok), upgraded to XP, downloaded new software, enabled ECP etc. all functions work except on computer "start-up" "Configuration in Progress" box appears each time and configures its settings which adds time to all start-ups, this never ocurred while using Win ME. What could be causing this problem ?

I have the exact same problem. My printer also asks for me to insert the black cartridge and will crash if I try to spool a second document while one is printing. I cannot get any help from HP, and came here for the skinny. Good to know that its not just me.

My HP 720 does the same thing as powerpuff's. MY OS is 2000 Pro. At boot up the HP loads very slowly and hogs almost all of my considerable system resources until it finishes a few minutes later. HP is no help. They said it is because the HP 700 series does not have a Microsoft "signature". Does anyone have a workaround?

You need to remove the Officejet manager from startup group. The Config you see each time is the officejet manager loading, by removing it this will stop your boot up time taking too long but adds the problem of when you try and print it has to load it self into memory. It's a choice really, A rock or a hard place. I removed it myself as I don't print everytime I use my PC and just load it manually when I have too. Hope this helps.
