Have a brand new Proliant 380DL G3 out of the box. Raid 5 configuration. I can't get the Hard drive to recognize the 680 Gigs I have. Deleted array and rebuilt same thing. What am I doing wrong. Configured right out of the box on previous and it recogized it all.

First time poster here...be gentle

ArkyBass,

Are you using SmartStart to configure the server, or are you doing it manually? If SmartStart, what version?

SmartStart 6.40 the first time. Second time I used f8 deleted the array then rebuilt. I did let let smartstart install the OS.

Found a copy SmartStart 7.0. Seems like as good as any idea for now. Will check back after the weekend and see if anyone has come up with any ideas or...hopefully report that 7.0 fixed the problem.

Just for reference and to end this thread. Smart Start 7.0 didn't help. I installed Server 2003 (I had been installing 2000) on this machine and it (the OS) recognized all 680G. So the problem is fixed but not really resolved...

Call Compaq/HP support they will get back to you.. they gonna ask you to update firmwares for HDD/RAID card/etc even BIOS version:).

I talked to those guys for about 45 minutes and they had me doing the same stuff I had already done (and told them I had already done it). I finally quite them and went to this post. Maybe I just had a bad tech-rep?? I had downloaded the firmware/bios updates but had not applied them. Anyway, I appreciate your reply.
