We are using a Proliant 3000 (no RAID). All three of our hot swapable disks show amber lights from the moment that the system boots. They stay amber and show green when the disk is being accessed. We ignored this for the last 2 years without problems but our repair person says that the lights are an indication that something is wrong. All of our diagnostics and work with Compaq service folks (checked cables, updated firmware, etc.) has not corrected the problem. Has anyone else seen these symptoms?

I would attempt to update the drive or controller firmware.

Just a thought that might help.

Sorry about my that PFSmith, I see you already tried that.

My bad.

Upgrade the system, controller and drive firmware. If you have already done this it is either a failing controller or the SCSI Backplane which the drive plug into. If these are non hotplug drives then the SCSI controller has failed, change it immemdiately.

Call Compaq Support and hopefully you still have warranty on this server to cover the new parts.

Good luck and pursue this immediately please.
