Hi,
I am trying to bring a PL1600 back from the dead. I have a 266 Pentium II and a single 4.3 GB HD installed. When I power up I get the lights on the drive for a second then nothing else. No video, no beeps, no nothing. The fans are all running. I’m not sure what’s wrong. If I plug in the CD-Rom it just lights up and tries to read every 2-3 seconds. There is no CD in it. Any ideas. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Some things to check for:

1) Ensure that you are using Compaq RAM for the memory. And also make sure it is the correct type (ie. EDO, SDRAM etc.) Compaq memory, doesn't like to run very well with other(ie. Kingston) memory installed.

2) Check the Video card, try replacing w/another of the same type if possible.

You may also want to try booting the server w/SmartStart and try running the Compaq Diagnostics.

Good Luck!

I have a prolian 1600 with a Dual Channel Integrated Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 Controller.

I just installed Windows Server 2000.

I have three how swapables that WS 2000 don't see.

How can I boot to the SCSI 3 controller?

How can I see all har drives?

There is a small cable near the built in SCSI controllers that if disconnected will cause this exact problem. Look for a loose wire inside the box. If you slide out the Processor Unit it ususally pulls this cable loose and you have to reattach it to revie the server.

I checked the cable next to the SCSI controller on the backplain. I disconnected it and reconnected it and still the same result. The CD-ROM locks up. Can any one help? This is getting old. I need this server back.
