projector won't "quit".......&...

in director 8.5, i have created a project that consists of 4 separate movies. the first 3 movies each have "go to movie (the next movie)" at the end. the last one ends with "quit" so the projector will quit.
while creating projectors for test viewing, all worked well for a while. at some point, 2 problems arose from the abyss.
1. instead of the projector quitting at the end as commanded, the end keeps jumping to the beginning of the second movie (it will quit when not in projector form) . my frame script simply says, "on exit frame / quit / end". i have tried various things; unloading and renaming movie parts, unloading cast members at a certain point in the movie, etc.. yet, it always jumps back to movie 2. i never once asked it to do so.
2. as part 3 "goes to" part 4, there is a white rectangular blip on the screen. there are no transitions added between the 2 parts. once again, i have tried many things and this only happens in the projector form.

I'm not sure about the "on exit frame / quit / end" method, since I'm not an expert in Director. What I do is create a marker at the very end of the score called "End" with nothing after it. When I want to be able to quit a projector, I either attach a "Jump to Marker Button" to a sprite that jumps to the marker "End" when clicked, or make the following script called "Quit" in the Behavior Channel:

on exitFrame me
go to "End"
end

This, too, simply jumps to the marker "End." The projector then quits and closes as desired. That might not be the professional approach, but it works.
