project: priority field

I can't figure out what the 'priority' field does. It appears in the Project Information box and also in 'task information' box. Anyone ever changed the default of 500 to something else for a particular reason?

It has to do with leveling resources. Search on Priority or 'About Resource Leveling' in the help for more information. (I'm using Project Pro 2003, but I would think the same searches would work in other versions.)
