I cannot insert clips into a timeline if the inserted clips have about 24 hours in total. I am using premiere 2 pro. What is wrong?

Nothing's wrong. The maximum time on the timeline is around 24 hours and you seem to have reached it.

And what if I need a longer project?

If you need longer than about 24 hours, you will either need to change software (and I have no idea if any other package will give you longer than this), or change your way of working to split the project into sections.

Be thankful it is so long now. Pre-Pro Premieres were limited to 3 or 4 hours.
