hey, i am making a website which displays videos...

i have the website just about done but im having a real problem with the videos. i have imported the video onto a stage within a .swf flash movie and attatched a custom skin i made for it...

when i play the movie from my hard drive or from my server it works fine... as soon as i embed it onto a webpage the .swf file loads but no .flv file...

what am i doing wrong?

they are in the same directory =(

does it hav anything to do with when i export the flash movie... at the bottom there is something about a local network or something

The local security settings are irrelevant in this case. May be your browser is blocking the access to your local FLV? Have you tried it from the server? You're not using IE, are you??

I am having the exact same problem as B52AlphaJackal. I can access the file and it will play from the server, but not when I use a web address. My files are in the same directory. I have tried this in IE and Firefox both do not play the flash file.

MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is basically an information to define the type of the content etc. added by the server when a data is transmitted. If MIME is not set for FLV in the server the receiving client (in this case web browser/Flash player) thinks it's a text file, not a Flash video.

Are you running your own server? If so and if it's IIS follow the link posted above. If you're using Apache have a look at < but the additional line would be:

flv-application/octet-stream flv

If it's not your own server then contact the server admin to do it for you.

I don't think the MIME is the problem. I too was seeing this and all I did was put the path ( to the FLV file in the contentPath in the parameters tab for the video.

My issue now is getting the flv to play in concert (when you click a play button) with the swf. see question msmillie on 4/6
