Hello All!
I am new here, found through a search, but have used Macola for a while now. I am running version Progression 7.6.400, and on MS-SQL 2000.
I have an odd problem I can't seem to figure out. I removed an older company from Macola, and right after that it gives errors related to Macpaths.dll and you can't even get to the login screen now, It just gives the error. It happens to everyone, so our whole company is now locked out of Macola until I figure it out. I tried even adding the company back, and even restoring the macsql.cfg file from last nighit, and nothing is working to get logged back in.
It seems like it must be something relatively minor, but it's major until I can fix it. :) If anyone has come across this issue, any help would be appreciated! I have added and removed companies before, but I believe this is the first time I've removed a company since we went to the SQL platform. It is a straightforward item to remove a company, but something went awry.
Thank you in advance for any help! - Ray

How did you delete the company? Please post the exact error message verbatim.

dgillz,
Thanks for your reply. I deleted the company using the progression setup utility, as you're supposed to. As far as I know, all it does is update the Macola.Cfg and delete the related Data_xxx directory.
Here is what I get: After trying to start Progression, you get a COBOL error window with "JMP0015I-U [PID:00000480 TID:00000BA0] CANNOT CALL PROGRAM 'PC_READ_DRIVE'. CODE=0x7e PGM=MACPATHS ADR=01B53409"
When you click OK on that message, you get the window about looking at the COBOL error report. It says "JMW0001I-I THE ERROR OCCURRED IN 'N:\macsql\pwe.exe" and repeats the first error message from above and asks if you want to view the report. After hitting NO, it closes back out.
Again it isn't just my system where I was working when removing the company, it is everyone that can't get in, so that makes it less likely removing the company changed anything in the local Macola.Ini file. As I mentioned, it only appears to have changed the macsql.cfg file, as nothing else in the macsql directory has that new of a time on it (except all the error reports).
Any ideas? Chances are I'm going to be making an emergency call here soon anyway, because noone will be happy with our electronic lefeline to the business data being offline. Thank you for any info! -Ray

Please confirm there are no directories underthe macsql directory that start with "data" other then the actual data companies used by Macola.

Beyond that, you had better make that call.

dgillz,
Thanks, that's what I ended up doing although what I thought about last night ended up being the solution to the issue.
I talked to our consultant, and they couldn't come up with much either for a bit. I suggested my idea of restoring the whole macola base directory from a backup I had before the error. Restoring that directory took care of it, now it is fine. I hestiated last night doing this exact thing, only because I didn't know why the problem occurred, and didn't want to risk making the problem bigger and harder to trace if that didn't fix it.
Upon further looking (I hate it when I don't know why something happened), for some reason all the files beginning with A and B were deleted from the Macola directory, explaining why I kept getting error messages since some dlls, etc were missing. I don't know why that happened, since noone would be in that directory doing anything except me, and I was not in it either. Apparently with deleting the company, it decided to start deleting files!
After everything was restored, I bit the bullet and ran the setup utility again, and removed the company, and it worked perfectly! So I now have no idea why it acted up in the first place, but all seems well now.

So the fix in this case (if anyone decides to look back on this thread) is to check for missing files in your macola root directroy, and restore from backup. Thank goodness for backups!
Ray

Very strange. Glad you are back up though.
