I am using vb.net 2003 and want to use a progress bar while a dataset is loaded. The dataset is bound to a grid which does take some time to load.

Do you know exactly how many records will be returned?

So how would you know exactly what percentage you had returned in order to set the progress bar?

I'm sure you know where I'm going with this question...

That's a question I had myself, and why I asked it. :)

That was actually a rhetorical question. If you don't know what percentage of records have been returned you cannot create a true progressbar.

So how would it be done if the number of records returned was known?

Is it possible to count total records using select statement count (*) ...Prior to loading Dataset?
