Hi there!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have a Progress 8.3C database that I am trying to connect to using OpenLink v4.0. I have configured a System DSN correctly, however, when I try to Test Connect I get the following:

Connection Failed!
SqlState= "08004" Native Error=0 Error message= Open Link ODBC Unable to get server handle

SqlState= "08004" Native Error=0 Error message= Open Link ODBC Connection rejected by Data Source

I have checked everything I can think of and been through the oplrqb.ini file with a fine toothcomb and it all seems to be set up fine.
I have also stopped the OPLRQB Service in DOS using oplshut -f, then started it again using oplrqb -dv command. Everything seems to run OK until it says:

Oplrqb: asking agent for server handle
Oplrqb: unable to get server handle for generic_sosdb1<error53>

Oplrqb: rejected @server.ODBCCP32 <unable to get server handle>
Oplrqb: pid 831 died with exit code 0
Oplrqb: agent died <pid=831>
Oplrqb: unable to find an agent with pid 831

If anyonecan offer any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,
James

I had a similar error with the OpenLink 4.0 but on Progress 9.1d. The problem was resolved when I found I had an 'old' progress.ini file in c:\winnt directory (which was ahead of the progress\bin directory in the path statement).

Also make sure that the path to your latest version of progress (maybe c:\program files\progress\bin or such) is the first (only) path to a progress directory in you path statement. I noticed that when one installs a new version of Progress it just appends the new path to the old path statement and doesn't remove the path to the old version.

In WinNT you update the path in the (right click)MyComputer->Properties->Environment. In Win 2K you need to go to COntrol Panel->System-> one of the tabs her has an Environment Variables that you click to set the Path.

Good luck

BTW, Open Link has pretty good tech support.

Thanks very much for the info, Bernie. I'll give it a go.

Hi,

I've now managed to get i to the stage where it obtains a server handle successfully, but it is now saying incompatible database agent, please upgrade generic_sosdb1
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
James
