Our office uses a Merlin Legend Ver. 5 system with about 35 DID's. I have been asked to setup an unattended extension (2030 -> 678-XXX-2030) which then needs to be forwarded to a call group (772). I have just enough experience to do basic administration on this system. I have this extension setup with voice mail enabled, but I am not sure how to forward it to the call group. This is basically a phantom extension, so it is unattended. That leads up to the second part of my question. I currently have a spare phone connected to this port, because I was not aware (until I read some posts in this forum) that you could setup a phantom extension. Could someone explain how to set this up.

Thanks

Well, if what you want is to make a DID ring into a calling group. Why not just renumber the calling group to 2030. That would be easier.

Maybe I should explain a little further. We have setup a support number for customers in Europe. This number will go to an unattended phone with voice mail enabled. We want incoming calls, to this number, to go to our Tech Support Call Group and if no one is logged in, then go to voice mail. We currently have a spare phone connected, but I think it would be better to setup a phanton extension, if possible, instead of a real phone. I am a newbie and not real sure how to setup the configuration I have just listed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again

The PBX doesn't care whether 2030 is a call group or extension, it will route DID calls to either object just the same. Aussie88 has the right idea; bypass the forwarding business and have calls go straight to Tech Support. If you still insist on building a phantom extension, renumber the "real" phone to 2099 (for example), then renumber one of the adjuncts to 2030. This keeps 2030 in the dialplan without eating a port. Keep in mind that call coverage for phantoms will be similar to unequipped stations. But there are tricks there too...
