Programming Partner ACS R5 Module

Will I be able to connect to the R5 module using a 355AF Adapter and plugging into the SMDR port in order to program the system using the PC Administration Software?

NOPE.

Only on the R7 and R8, does it support a serial connection for programming.

You will need a remote access PC card, and a modem in you PC to connect.

If i plug in a USB modem into my computer, will I be able to directly dial into the ASC module using an open extension port?

If you have a Remote Access Backup and Restore card installed in the system, and you change the extension port to access Intercom instead of an outside line, you will be able to dial Ext. 76 and reach the modem. Whether you are actually able to negotiate a connection remains to be seen.

What is it that you need to program via the GUI that you can't accomplish through programming from Ext. 10?

I work for a family owned flooring supply company as the warehouse manager. I do have some technical skills using computers so the owner decided to give me the task of programming all of our vendors into the speed dial function. I have never worked with phone system before and have been researching the past couple of days to figure out the easiest way to do this. I figured if I could remote into the system using the PC Administration software, I would be able to accomplish this task at a faster rate. It sounds like the phone system here is tad bit antiquated. Would it be easier in your opinion to program the numbers from extension 10 or 11?

At Ext. 10 or 11, press Feature 00 to start programming

1. Press Feature and then the 3 digit speed dial code from 600 through 699
2. Dial the telephone number
3. Return to Step 1

Press Feature 00 again when you are finished.

Seriously, since I can dial on a telephone like I can work a 10 key adding machine (remembering that the top and bottom rows are reversed), I could enter all 100 speed dial numbers in less than 5 minutes. I would allow you 15 to get the job done.

BTW, even if you got everything up and running to use the GUI, you do realize that you need to reboot the phone system to make your changes live? No so when programming from the phone.

I used to plug my modem into the auxport of the a phone. On the phone I would press the intercom key then let the laptop dial the 76. no messing with ALS.

Thank you so much for your help. I think Ill just stick to entering the speed dial numbers manually.
