Hi I've assigned a new extension on our Mitel Switch. Does anyone know how I program the handset (Mitel 5212) so that it assigns the extension I made available for it?
1) In the IP Set Assignment form, you can enter in the MAC address of the set. You find the MAC on the bottom of the set. The format is:
XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
2) In the System Options Assignment form you will see an entry of "IP SET REGISTRATION". Beside that entry, there should be something like *** (Mitel Default) or whatever. Doesn't matter what it is, you can change it to *123 if you want. The Set should be prompting you on the display to enter PIN. The PIN = IP SET REGISTRATION CODE + extension number. Depending on the set, you press either the hold button or the blue superkey button. The PIN will then register the set MAC to the extension. You only have to do this once.
Thanks for that info Paterson.
The IP Set Registration Code...is that the Master code that we get from the supplier of the Mitel handsets? Or is there a way i can retrieve that Master Code on the system itself?
(mitel box IP). Enter username and password. Click on System Administration Tool. From the drop-box on the left hand side select System configuration. Then expand Devices-> User Configuration. Then Add new or change exitsting records.
The MiNET protocol is Stimulus-like protocol. So there is no any logic or programming inside the phone. All the settings regarding ICP IP address, TFTP IP address and few other your phone should get from the network over DHCP if it's properly configured. As soon as it contacts ICP, the MITEL box will match the MAC address and register the phone in the system. When you lift the handset or push a button, the phone will send an event to ICP and server will process this event and act according to configurations in the database. There are some exceptions when you have to manually configure the phone. It's unlikely that's you need to do so.
Ok I've added the MAC Address in User Configuration but it said error password was too short. It did however added the extension number I've assigned for it on the system but when I try and call the extension it says Currently not Accessible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I noticed that it did remove one license which it should.
Ok this thread has helped alot. I got my IP Phones working...Next question is...Can one add a display name to your phone so that when someone calls you within the company, you can see there name on the display?
Can you be more specific please...I have Telephone Directory Management...Would that be the one and where in there do i make the changes to show display name. Thanx
If you are having difficulty with something as simple as adding a name in the Telephone directory form, you need to question whether you should be programming the system at all.
Try selecting the HELP files, most of your questions can be answered there.

I know how to add names to the telephone directory form but I'm refering to the name showing on the display of the phone. Currently when I call one of the Mitel phones i get the name VOIP-Mitel. I would like it to show the name of the user I'm calling example: John Doe.
I've noticed the names does show on the displays when you call users also on the Mitel switch. I forgot to mention it's linked to a Siemens PABX aswell so we use the Mitel for users outside our head office. The problem i'm having is when someone with a Mitel Phone calls someone at head office with a siemens extension, we will see VOIP-Mitel on the Siemens phone. I was told there we need to enable something on our PABX. I use HiPath 4000 Assistant. Any Ideas?
