We have 4 6218 phones on a Merlin Magix 3.0 system. The phones are outward restricted and are used to answere calls and to call other ext. I have unlocked the button programming but when I try to program an ext it won't work.
Is there something in the system that won't allow me to progam these buttons.

6218 is a single line phone. Replaced with a 6219. You can program system buttons on the phone but you are not programming the buttons on that phone you are programming the extension. The buttons on that phone are controlled by that phone and not the system.

I have tried to program the buttons on the phone and through WinSPm no luck.

That's what 1043 just said

These are single-line phones, NOT multiline phones.

The buttons on the phone are Speed Dial buttons, which you got to the phone itself to program.

These buttons can dial inside extensions, or # and a feature code, or 9 and an outside number.

There's another way to explain this: With any other multi-button or multi-line Merlin phone, the "intelligence" and programming for the phone resides IN THE PHONE SYSTEM.

The "intelligence" for the 6218 phone resides IN THE PHONE ITSELF. All programming for the buttons on the 6218 is done from the 6218 phone, not WinSPM.

Instructions on how to do this can be found on page 4 (Adobe Acrobat page 6) of If you are unable to program a button, it may be because the programming lock is turned on. If that's the case, press the Program button, then press Flash. Dial 766, press Flash, then press Program.

Locking and unlocking the ability to program this phone is also discussed in the manual that I referenced.

I think you may have posted in the wrong forum.

This forum is for AT&T/Lucent/Avaya Merlin phone system questions.

There may be a Tek-Tips forum for cell phones, but this one isn't it.

Ha! You must have done a Google search for "unlock phone". This is an Avaya business phone system forum. You need to search for threads relevant to mobile phones.
