Does anyone know how to get a random program to start as a service without the use of third party software. I would like to start some vpn software as a service as opposed to starting after login. I have tried the sc servername title create etc. command but no dice. It says the service is created and started but false message. If anyone can help me out on this one it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, this is not to start any program already listed in the services console of XP. This is literally to create a service with an existing program not set to run as a service. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

I think you may need third party software to set up the Service?

You will need the two small Microsoft programs in order to set up your service. Instsrv.exe is the program used to create a Windows service, and Srvany.exe is a program that allows almost any other program to run as a service. These files are available in Microsoft's Windows Resource Kit, at various internet sites, or you can just download them both here.

Linney ... thanks for the knowledge. I totally forgot about the Resource Kit from NT. Nice to know it can still be of use with the newer OSes. I am sure that will work fine to solve my issue. I really appreciate the help. Thanks again.
