Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but thought I might pick your brains. I have an engineer who forwared this complaint to me.
I found that I was forced to end the AutoCAD program many times when I pulled out more than 2 CAD files at a time. The reason I did that was I could do cross reference and share the database for the dwgs, so I do copy pieces of drawings, keep minimizing and maximizing the drawings quite often every time. When the CAD program is crashed, I need to click “END NOW” to close the program, and then restart AutoCAD. Once you open the CAD program again, all the files you did not save last time were as *.sv$ files. Then, I have to do “save as” for organizing those files I lost. I guess that there are some conflicting programs for my AutoCAD program in PC.

Any help will do thanks

Do you have many users who use AutoCAD? Do they all have the same version of the program and same types of PCs? I don't know much about it, but I know it is a resource intensive program. I would start by checking your basic performance config:

What is your foreground application boost set to?
System Properties/Advanced/Performance Settings/Advanced. Both settings should probably be "Programs" for best performance.

What's his page file size compared to RAM, Processor specs, etc.?

What's his CPU and Memory Performance doing in Task Manager when the program hangs?

Ok specs are as follows:
Dual Core P4 3000 Mhz
Gigabite Motherboard
1 gig ram
426 MB avil.
Total Virtual Memory 2 Gig
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 Gig
Page File Space 2.31 Gig
Dont know the model of the video card off hand but it aint the cheapest I know that.

I'll check on the system apps but I belive by default its set to programs but I could be wrong...

How is your vitual memory 2 GB, but your pagefile space is 2.31 GB? They are the same thing. Do you have your page file set with a different min/max? That never works as far as I know and is known to cause some problems.

Is AutoCAD throwing any errors in the App log when the program freezes?

You can Right-Click on My Computer, go to Manage, and then expand the Event Viewer group. You should see System, Security, and Application logs. Application log is typically where Apps dump errors, but you may want to check the System log as well. You'll want to look at the date/time column and look approximately when the program last froze up on the user.
