I have a NEC 192 Elite. When an after hours call comes in it plays the current greeting and one of the choices it to dial 7 for security. This use to work and now it doesnt ring the extension? Where do I check for this? Is this programming done with the other programming at the console or is this done through VM programming on one of the phones?

The programming for choice 7 (I imagine you are using the VM auto attendant?) is done on the voicemail.
Log into the VM and call the number. Watch the VM port answer. The port will show you the mailbox that is answering that call (usually the opening box) but it could be a transaction or user mailbox as well.
If is is a standard mailbox, you will need to do ctrl-e to see the expanded dialing options.

Once you see these:
1.xxx 2. xxx 3. xxx 4.xxx 5. xxx
6.xxx 7. xxx 8.xxx, etc....
Note that option 7 would need to be a actual extension or id in the phone system for the call to be transferred.

Hope that helped.
Jim

Sorry, lost you. This is the auto attendant main option for after hours calls. The message I recoreded states the hours, dial 411 for a directory, dial an extension or dial 7 for security (they are on x117). If a user dialed 7 it used to transfer to ext 117, now if you hit 7 it says please hold on while I try that extention and then nothing. No ring, no voicemail, just dead? If its transfering I have no idea where it was going. How does one program what happens when they press 7 from this prompt?

Try dialing 117 from a regular display phone. Can you dial it? or does it say DND etc.? If you can dial it and it does not say DND etc. then you must reprogram it in the voicemail. Which voicemail do you have? NEC elitemail? Then you must log into the voicemial via a PC and reprogram the digit 7 to point to 117.

dialing 117 goes to security. The VM is the card inside the elite 192 and I program it by calling VM from the console and loging in.

Make sure 117 has a mailbox and make sure 117 mailbox is setup correctly and is set to transfer.

x117 doesnt have a mailbox and they dont want one. How does that affect the transfer from the default auto attendant? I'm just looking to make pressing a 6 at the greeting to transfer to x117. I could also just change the message to say dial 117 instead of 6 but I would rather have the 6 prompt enabled.

If from the vms you can dial 117 and it rings the phone, then a mailbox is set up correctly. You will have to get a pc to connect and change the prompt via the pc connection to manage the vms.

As far as I can tell theres never been a PC connected? Isnt there a way to do this from a phone?

You have to have a mb in order for the vm to know what to do when 6 = 117 is dialed or just dialing 117. Ethier way a mb must be made. Just don't forward 117 to vm and it will never take a msg. It will ring for ever.

but they want a caller dialing 6 at the VM prompt to get ext 117.
