***Apologies first to all if this has been asked before. I attempted to search, but it reports that search is not working.

Scenario: New admin to a Merlin Legend. Admin used to working on Definity's. Inherited Merlin from a bought out company. No paperwork, books, etc. with the unit. Had to take it off the wall myself and clear the cobwebs. No clue on programming, but getting there.

Issue: Need to program an analog port via the attd console. I cannot access the Admin port yet (waiting for a 355 adapter) and manual connect to *10 via Winspm is a no go since no one knows the passwords.
The port cards available are a 408 gs-ls-id-mlx in slot 3 and a 400 gs/ls/ttr in slot 5.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what the question is :), but the default password is 'craftr4'. As for documentation, if you go to you'll find documentation up the wazzu, start under Communication Systems, Merlin Legend, then your release number. Two documents you will want are 'System Features' and 'System Programming'.

Thanks for the info.
The craftr4 password didn't work. The main question I had was how do I reset the password without having a 355a to connect to the Admin port? In a previous post, I understood that programming one of the ports to be analog, and then setting winspm to a direct connect would solve it.

I dunno.... I'll wait for the 355a to show up.

Thanks again.

It could be that someone changed the default password (or you have an older Merlin, in which case the default PW is "craft". You can also see and change the current password from the main console.

Franke, can you change password from console? I thought you had to be connect via SPM? TipHelp@charter.net

That was my understanding also. Please describe the steps to change it from the console, if it's possible.

Thanks for all the help.
Mike

Well now you've filled me with self doubt...I thought PASSWORD was under the Maintenance menu, though I won't be able to verify that until tomorrow. My apologies if I misspoke.

hoffmancorp,
Correct me if I'm wrong, you just want to do some programming, don't you?
From the attendant console, press "system program" then "exit". You are now in program mode. From here you can program your system except for a few exceptions. You may be able to change the password from here, I'm not sure on that.
You must use a MLX-20L phone on port 1 or 5 of the 408 card. Normally port 1. Franke is correct with the password "craftr4" (note to enter it in lower case) through local or remote programming. You can always just look around in programming under maintenance for the system password.
Good luck with this, Chris

Well, I had a friend check on his console and he did not find the "PASSWORD" command under Maintenance or System Programming, so I guess I'll have to eat my own words and apologize for the incorrect information (though even he said he had done it from the console; perhaps we're both getting old and senile.) :)
