Hello.

I am running Mandake 9.0 and using the ProFTPd 1.2.8 ftp daemon, and I have a very, very strange problem. Here it is:

I can log onto my FTP from my home and work computers without a problem. I have three friends that need access to an ftp account, but are unable to get access to the ftp. It gives them a site not found error in Internet Explorer 6. I don't know what to do. I don't know what is causing such strange problems.

Has anyone seen anything like this with ProFTP?

Please let me know and thanks in advance for your help.

If you want them to be able to access those directories from Internet Explorer, then you need an http server such as apache. You you want them to have ftp accounts, then they need to download an ftp client or use the command line ftp client in the Windows dos shell.

How are they logging in using IE? ftp://username:password@ftp.yourdomain.com or just ftp://ftp.yourdomain.com

Have they checked the passive option in IE, it's under tools and advanced.

Can they successfully login to other ftp sites?

RhythmAce is correct that it's best to use an ftp client, but IE will generally work
