A Unix user is logging on to the citrix server but is getting a profile error everytime they attempt to login. I have re-created what would seem to be a corrup profile but to no avail, it returns the user the same error message each time informing them that the profile cannot be located and access is denied (Contact Administrator)

Is there anything else I can try before I go crazy?

Cheers

Can you not create the empty profile, assign the security rights and then try logging the user in? It sounds either permissions or an incorrect entry in your AD.

Cheers,
Carl.

Turn on Delete locally cached copies in the Local security MMC
&
Turn on Do not check for administrative ownership of profiles in the same mmc. & check permissions of the directory

Cheers
Scott

GRRR.... havent been able to get on here all day long at work, just been timing out, didnt think the site was down! Anyway....I have see nabout that dont check ownership thing, sorry I am not very techincal, Scott, MMC?? Please let me know on that and I can try that.

Also an update to the situation. I have since got the user to login toa pc successfully and they dont get the problem and recreated the profile ok. But as soon as they try login in Citrix again, same problem.

So the security / dont check profile ownership could be why? I am not sure?

UP. Any more help much appriciated! This one is urgent and I need to get it sorted!

Cheers

Hi,

But aren't the profiles for the User Profile and the Citrix Profile set to different directories? Check your Active Computers and Users. There are two profile areas and should be seperate.

Cheers,
Carl.

Ogi,

Yes, there are two seperate profile directory's.

One being \\server name\user profile

and one on the citrix server under:

C:\Documents&Settings\user profile. - this profile I cannot rename or remove as I keep getting files in use but the user is logged out of everything.

Either way it has not made a difference recreating the profile on the profile server, they can login to a pc ok with thier windows account but not on Citrix, so what is this telling you?

Cheers

Hi,

Within Active Directory Computers and Users if you look at an accounts (yours or a test one) there is a tab called "Terminal Services Profile".

Create a Share on your Current Profile Server called "TSProfiles" and share it as "TSProfile$"

Then, put in the profile path
\\Server Name\TSProfile$\%Username%

Ensure that the user DOESN'T have a local profile on your Citrix Server(s).

Log that user in.

Once he logs out, the profile will be stored remotely and not on the server!

Also, ensure you've done what Scott has said about "Deleting Roaming Profile" within your policy either Globally or Locally depending on your AD configuration.

Does that help any?

Cheers,
Carl.

Just stumbled across your problem and I may have a solution. We run into this periodically. What I do is run the getsid command of the user id and remove it from the registry of the terminal server. To do this, in a command window, run: 'getsid \\server1 xxx \\server2 xxx' where server1 is your domain controller, xxx is the userid and server2 is the terminal server. Take the sid that is resolved and find it in HKEY_USERS on the terminal server. Delete the _Classes piece and then you should be able to delete the local profile.

WHAT !!!!!!!

My god man...Talk about hitting a peanut with a JCB !!!!

That's like rebuilding a machine if it's infected with a virus!

If you reboot a server (without live users on) then all the profiles are in a dormant state until a user logs back on, therefore, you will be able to right click My Computer, Properties, User Profiles, highlight those trapped users and click "Delete".

Alternatively, set up roaming profiles (as my previous post) and implement the changes recommended by Scott!

Shocked!
Carl.

My apologies. We do have roaming profiles set up and we do use this command when a local profile becomes "stuck" in a state where users cannot login and we are unable to delete the local profile on the TS. I should have read the threads a bit more thoroughly before posting. I did not mean to leave a bad post, I was just trying to help...thinking this was similar to our configuration. Again, my apologies. Carl, thanks for correcting me.

Sincerely.

Hi,

No need to apologise, what I mean is that what you do is a bit drastic for a locked profile!

If you wait until the next reboot (I do an overnight one) then the profile becomes free and can be deleted. My daily admin is to log onto each Citrix server and delete stuck roaming profiles, never picking profiles that are dated today!

It seems very harsh to re-SID a server because of a profile.

You certainly didn't leave a bad post, maybe this will save you having to do loads of work, in which case, helps you!

Sorry if my post sounded like you'd posted something bad I was just totally gob-smacked at what you do!!!

Regards,
Carl.
