Profile advise

Hi, I'm having issues with a users profile changing from their standard profile name to adding a .000 or .001 to end. eg 'JSmith.000' rather then just 'JSmith'.
It keeps the original profile in docs and sets aswell, but tends to like this .000 profile i.e showing up command prompt aswell.
Ive seen it happen before but never payed much attention to it.. Anyone any ideas as to why this second profile is created?

Has the user account been re-created?

Reason I ask is because this will cause the GUID to change for the user account. This is a unique identifier to that user account, as well as any other object in AD. If you (or someone else) had re-created the users account at some point but kept the same sAMAccount (name), appending characters like ".ooo" will show on a new profile when the user logs in with the re-created account.
