Procurve 2824 2nd subnet

Hi

We have run out of IP addresses on our main internal network 192.168.47.0/24 Been tring for weeks to get this fully working!

We just want to add another subnet and be able to browse eachother and have Internet access.

VLAN 1 has (192.168.47.241). Added 192.168.120.241 to the same VLAN. Browsing the 47 network from the 120 network is ok, but no internet.

Currently 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.47.2 for Internet. So Internet should go this route for the 120 network.
Seems the switch is not routing to 47.2 as the pc default gateway is 120.241 and pc address of 120.20. Internet traffic is not been seen on the firewall (47.2). This passes on to 47.1 which is the ADSL router and works for the 47 network.

The switch is on the latest firmware version I.08.105

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
 
Did you enable ip routing on the switch? IF you haven't it will only act as a layer 2 device.

This is the command on the config# prompt to enable ip routing.

Also did you enable another vlan for the other network? Or do you have another port on your router that you are using for another lan network?

You can't just plug devices into a switch and put them on another network. You either have to enable another vlan on your switch and use the switch to route vlans or have an extra port on the router to route between networks.

Another option is using a bigger mask /23 /22 to fit all your devices under 1 network. This will take less configuration you don't have to staticly setup vlan 1 or 2 on your switch ports. You also won't have to enable dhcp helper/relay for DHCP devices or make a new DHCP scope for the new network.

Also you need a route back to your PC.

SO in your router if you have vlan 2(192.168.120.0) enabled on the 2848.

Add a route like this.

192.168.120.0 255.255.255.0 X.X.X.X(Ip address of vlan 1 on your 2848)

This is of course your using your switch to route traffic to the new vlan.
