We are having problems connecting to our Octel 250 renotely with our laptops. All we are getting is modem tone with no connection. We have the modem on the far end 3 times and still have the same problem. There is a US Robotics on the far end could there be a dip switch issue conducive only to Procomm Plus??

I connect to the Octel 250 here using ProComm from either my laptop with an internal modem or from a desktop PC using a Hayes Accura modem. The USRobotics modem connected to the Octel has switches 1, 4 and 8 DOWN with the remianing switches in the UP position. In an unused state, the lights lit on the USRobotics are AA, TR and CS. Hope that this helps you out.

What are the settings that you have on your laptop with Procomm? I want to make sure everything is cool on this end before I head out 30 miles to check the far end robotics settings.

The Procomm setting that really matters is: Either Wy50 or VT100, and 8-N-1. The baud rate should be negotiated between modems, so the PC modem can be set even as high as 115,000 bps.

SUBJECT: 3COM/US Robotics 56K fax modem for Octel 250 and Octel 350 message servers
DATE: 01/08/01
AFFECTED SYSTEMS: Octel 250/350
DESCRIPTION: Beginning in December 2000, a 3COM/US Robotics 56K fax modem is being
shipped with the Octel 250. Previously, a Boca Research 33.6-Kbps modem was
provided. The US Robotics modem can also be used with the Octel 350 message
server.
Make sure you set the dip switch settings to the following:
Dip switch settings
Switch 1 = On
Switch 2 = Off (default)
Switch 3 = Off
Switch 4 = On
Switch 5 = Off
Switch 6 = Off (default)
Switch 7 = Off (default)
Switch 8 = On (default)
When initializing the modem, use the following initialization string:
ATE0Q1&C1&D0S0=1&N6&K0Y0&W0
Although the current Peripheral Equipment Manual (part number 101-1386-002)
does not refer to the US Robotics modem specifically, it can be used as a
reference if further assistance is needed.
When ordering the 3COM/US Robotics 56K fax modem, use the following
Comcode 408430403.
